Unless you've been living under a particular interesting rock with a good book for the past year,
you'd have noticed that battle royale games have become all the rage thanks to the likes of Player Unknowns Battleground. More and more games have been adding a battle royal mode from the likes
of GTA: Online to Paladins.
Now PUBG wasn't the first of these games and if you take a quick look at the steam listings you'll
notice more and more popping up like worms in an apple and I've been playing one of them
Fortnite Battle Royale. (A spin off from the main Fortnite game that has been on development for about 7
years)
Fortnite follows what has become the standard for these battle royale type games.
up to 100 players get dumped on an island via in this case by a flying bus named the 'Battle Bus'.
Weapons, Armour and other support is randomly distributed and the play area gradually decreases forcing
players into a single point insuring combat gets hectic.
The goal however is simple, Be the last player Standing.
Where Fortnite differs from games like PUBG is its crafting system. Gather resources such as
wood, steel and brick from the local buildings and use them to construct things such as walls and stairs.
Players can use these to traverse the map or shield themselves from enemy fire.
The introduction of this does mean a lot of games descend into tower building competitions between the last few players desperately trying to protect themselves.
Between Fortnite and PUBG Fortnite is differently my preferred choice. The cartoon style looks a lot better
then PUBGs 'realistic' look and the inability to go prone seems to stop games turning into giant sniping
matches. Also being free to play allows you to get a taste of the type of game without the need of investing
any money.
As with any free to play game there is of course micro transactions which come in the form of V-Bucks
that can be used for cosmetic upgrades and Battle Passes which increases the rate in which a player can
increase their level. V-Bucks can be earned in game via daily quests and missions.
If you're looking to get into the battle royale genre then Fortnite: Battle Royale is well worth a look
I mean its free and you don't need to pay any micro transactions to enjoy.
So check it out.
