I was thinking about local multiplayer the other day, As you do and I found myself just wistfully thinking back to a day where you'd be huddled around a small TV with some mates playing Golden Eye, Each of you with only a tiny corner of the screen to use and trying not to cheat by looking at everyone else's corner.
The highlight of local multiplayer for most would have been Golden Eye on the N64. The four player splitscreen FPS was one of the most innovative games around at the time, Allowing you and four friends to battle it out on the same TV.
Golden Eye very much laid the foundation for first person shooters on consoles and not to long ago it was unthinkable to release a game with out some sort of local multiplayer, But as time went on technology moved forward and at the start of the last generation with most gamer's having access to broadband, Developers made the decision it seemed to focus on mostly online multiplayer which is fine its just a shame that those days of playing with friends in the same room seem to be over.Or are they.
After having a look around ive discovered that there are still some great local multiplayer games out there.
Here's a list of a few:
Minecraft for the consoles
Rock Band
Towerfall
Gang Beasts
Surgeon Simulator
Super Smash Bros
and Mario Kart 8 to name just a few.
