Where have all the demo's gone?

With the release of the Fifa 15 demo earlier this week i started to wonder what has happened to demos in recent years.

Back in the PS1 era it was very easy to come by demos in the form of demo discs taped to the front of magazines and even before that the Amiga that we had would have magazines with floppy discs taped to the front of them, Some even with full games on them.

When the last generation came along with consoles being able to access the internet all sorts of possibility's opened up, The 360 forged ahead and allowed a lot of companies to release demos, I think every game on the arcade store has a demo, Unfortunately on the PS3 there wasn't that many demos to be had and this trend has continued onto the PS4 and the Xbox one.

As for an explanation i hope this Extra Credit video answers the questions.

Console Mash Time Machine

Welcome to the Console Mash Time Machine, Each week we are going to be taking a look at some older games and console that you may have forgotten about.
This week...

5 Star Racing

Made by European developer Phoenix Games, This budget title was released to the European market as 5 Star racing and to the US as All Star racing.
The copy i bought back in 2002 (Which was when this game was actually released) from supermarket chain Lidl cost about £15.
Ok I know this is another PS1 game and another racer and i promise we will move on to something next week, But I just had to include this.
Now this is a budget game so i know i shouldn't be too harsh on it but I've got to say this is one of the worst racers I've ever played (but maybe not the worst).
It doesn't get off to the best starts with a very boring title screen but hey that's just a title screen maybe i shouldn't look to much into that.
From the main menu you can choose from 5 different race types either custom car derby, speed duel, super car chase, muscle machines and rally rider, Each of these have 2 tracks and 3 cars to choose from so there is a bit of a chose.
The problem lays in the game play, Accelerating is fine so is reversing but trying to turn is so delayed that it is almost becomes impossible at times and the thing is all cars play the same it doesn't which mode you choose or which car because the all feel the same to drive.
The race tracks are not that great either. They are all just generic race tracks there is very little difference between any of them (the rally tracks aren't even off-road). The cars also have a tendency to pass through the terrain.
That being said there is something quite nice about games like this and if I'm honest I'm not sure what it is i like about it.
If you ever find this for a very cheap price and you have a PS1 or a PS3 then pick this up and see what you make of this.

If you think I've been to harsh on this game then leave a comment bellow, But remember these are my OPINIONS and they are nothing more then OPINIONS.

Destiny - Final Preparations

The final day of wait is upon us, in a little more than 24 hours, a lone Ghost will find your lifeless body in the ruins of Old Russia, only to bring you back into the light and embrace your Destiny. But before being brought out of the darkness, you have one last chance to reflect and make your final preparations before the most anticipated game of the year, Destiny, gets release.

Guardian Classes

You can have multiple Characters in the Destiny Universe, but it’s always good to discover a class that can be your ‘Go-To’ character when you want to show people you’re the Real Deal!

“They are a standing army of specialized soldiers tasked with the defence of the last city on Earth. They are also responsible for exploring the remnants of human society abandoned throughout the solar system and investigating the remains of their Golden Age of exploration. Guardians wage a vicious armed conflict against a myriad of extra-terrestrial species who pose an immediate threat to the survival of humanity. The greatest source of the Guardian's power lies in their ability to harness the energy of The Traveller and use it as a weapon against their opponents.”

Hunter

"Hunters are the reconnaissance masters of the Last City, who seek, find and destroy those who want to end Humankind's seed."
"Hunters once prowled the wilderness and wastelands, taking big risks for even bigger rewards. You're no outlaw—at least, not anymore—but making your own luck has always meant bending the rules."

Warlock

"Warlocks wield the power of 'spells' to complement their weapons and to overpower their enemies."
"Warlocks have long studied the Traveller, mastering some of its arcane energies. It’s true purpose still remains a great mystery, but discovering truth has always driven you into the unknown."

Titan

"Titans are the powerful mechanistic soldiers of the Last City, equipped with powerful weapons and indomitable advanced mech-like suits of fiercely devastating power."
"You hail from a long line of heroes, forged from strength and sacrifice. Our enemies may be deadly and merciless, but so are you."

Fireteams and the Vault of Glass

Although fireteams are not a requirement, it can make your experience of the game more enjoyable and potentially easier! Every aspect of Destiny can be played with your fireteam. Most importantly, and please note this, whether you are a ‘Completionist’ or just fully intend to lead an assault on Venus’ Vault of Glass, you will have to attack as a fireteam. First and foremost you can only attack a Vault if you are Level 25 or above. There is no Matchmaking, so you will have to find 5 friends who are willing to commit to an extremely long raid! By this I mean a vault raid will take several hours to complete. It may even take you an hour just to open the door! A vault assault should feature 3 main Boss’, but thankfully you do not need to complete the assault in one day as at every milestone a checkpoint save will be created, and your team can rearrange to regroup at another appointed date and time. Please note this that The Vault of Glass will reset every Tuesday, meaning that if you do not complete your assault come Tuesday, your progress will be reset, and you’ll have to start over again! All in all you should regard a Vault Hunt as an end game. You must be levelled up and prepared for a ‘First Person’ fight of your life. The treasure you find is unlike anything you will find in the main game, and this should be a huge incentive for you to team up with 5 others and embark on an Indiana Jones escque, sci fi assault.

Bungie.net Codes

Lastly, feel free to redeem these Bungie.net codes. They will not give you any advantage upon first installing the game, but they will however give you more choices for Character customisation.

Are Nintendo really heading for failure

Can they be saved

It seems since the launch of the WiiU everyone has been talking about the death of Nintendo, Some saying that they should get out of the console market and just concentrate on making games to survive.

But there maybe hope for them still, They may just have to shake things up a bit.

First of all they need to get their game launches sorted out, For example Nintendo are releasing Super Smash Bros. on to the 3DS (A game which a lot of people will buy) before releasing it on the WiiU (The console which needs the most help).
If they released it onto the WiiU first it would all but secure a spike in WiiU sells.

Secondly instead of trying to recycle old IPs which may have been great back in their day, They should try and focus on creating new ones.
Nintendo have a vast number of development studios and years of experience at their disposal.
There must be an original idea in there some where.

Thirdly Start promoting indie games and developers.
We are living in an age where the indie game is king and if Nintendo can get some great exclusives on their consoles then all the better.

These are just some ideas that I think may help Nintendo in the long run.
Only time will tell if they can change their grim future into a bright one.

Retro Game of the Week

Retro Game of the week

Demolition Racer

Back on the PS1 there where some great racers and this was one that I had some of the best times playing.
It is easy to pass Demolition racer off as just a Destruction Derby clone but it seemed to have so much more.

It did have a few flaws but it easily made up for that with the sheer variety, 5 Different game modes where available (2 from the start)and they ranged from the Standard demolition and last man standing to modes like chicken which had you driving head on into an opposing car(This mode was great with 2 players).

The game also gave you 8 cars/vans to choose from each one of them able to be customized with different paints and stickers allowing you to personalize your car.

The handling didn't feel as tight as it did in Destruction Derby but there was a certain joy about being to easily roll an opponents car and some time smash them way down the track.

Demolition racer is a great game and you should definitely try to pick it up as it should only cost a couple of pounds now
